HP Deskjet D2680 Review

March 14th, 2010

The HP Deskjet D2680 is very easy to install in Linux. First I installed hplip and then I installed hplip-gui. After that it was as simple as plugging the printer in and then opening the HP device manager. The HP Device Manager can be found in Mandriva 2010 in the System Tools section of the Menu. Then click on setup device. On the following screen I had to select USB. After that the program detected the printer and in a few moments it was ready to be used, the installation took about 5 minutes.

This printer does not come with a usb cable so you will need to make sure you have one for plugging the printer into the computer.

In my case both hplip and hplip-gui was available through the Mandriva software installer. This will

likely be the case with most other distributions of Linux. For those of you who do not have this software as readily available, here is a link to download hplip and hplip-gui for those of you who may need a download link.

As of the time of this writing this printer can be found in most stores, keep in mind if you are a Linux user that Best Buy may void your warranty for using any of their products with Linux although the company has yet to provide any evidence that Linux will damage any hardware. As for me I certainly have not had that problem, and so far the printer has not quit working or blew sparks or anything.

If you are looking for a printer that is Linux compatible and you want one that is new and can be easily found at your local tech store as well as online, this is an item worth taking a look at.

Thanks for this valuable informative site. In some cases, the best ideas come from the posts a person wouldn’t expect. Until now, I did not give so much thought to leaving comments on web log posts and have left responses even less. Checking out your insightful content, may well inspire me to do so more often.
